Enjoy summer but be secure

As the lazy hazy days of summer set in, one thing residents must ensure is that they don’t become lazy when it comes to the security of their property.
If they do, Peel police say they have a very good chance of becoming a victim of a residential break-in.
With the warm summer months arriving, police would like to warn homeowners about an increased risk of break and enters to their property.
During the summer, many people leave doors and windows in their homes open for ventilation during the day and at night in an effort to cool the home.
People use the garage more in the summer as they work around the yard, resulting in doors being left open even when the garage is unattended.
We, along with the police, would like to remind residents criminals take advantage of this increased accessibility to residences to break into homes. As such, residents are reminded to:
• Keep windows secure by installing a stop in the track to prevent someone from fully opening the window to crawl inside;
• Make sure screen doors are kept locked;
• Lock front doors when you will be enjoying the back yard;
• Do not leave valuables like wallets, purses and car keys in view of open doorways or windows;
• Keep shed and garage doors closed and locked.
Enjoy summer, but do it wisely.
Protect yourself and your residence.
