BRAMPTON - Funeral services were held yesterday for 21-year-old Brampton resident Samantha Haladej who was killed early Friday morning in a head-on collision with a Toronto streetcar.
Police said alcohol is being considered as one of the factors behind the deadly crash.
Haladej had reportedly been out celebrating a birthday with friends prior to the accident near Bathurst and Lakeshore.
Her friend, 23-year-old Kristine Gonzaga was a passenger in the car. Gonzaga was travelling in the passenger seat of the Pontiac Sunfire at the time of the crash. Emergency crews cut Gonzaga free after being trapped beside Haladej. Gonzaga did not sustain life-threatening injuries and was released from hospital later that morning. Haladej was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Haledej was travelling down a restricted road meant only for streetcars.
Following the funeral service, friends and family, who described Haladej as ‘full of life’, gathered at the scene of the crash to release monarch butterflies in celebration her life.
Donations for MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) were accepted at the service.
