BRAMPTON -
St. Edmund Campion Secondary School student Stacie-Ann Sammott shines in the spotlight of her school community every day.
Her overwhelming involvement in school activities as well as in the
Brampton community has proven inspirational for both peers and teachers.
This school year, Sammott is serving as the Dufferin-Peel Catholic
District School Board's student trustee for schools in North Peel. She
is responsible for representing all students north of Hwy. 401
In this role, she voices student-related concerns to board members and
debates issues regarding changes that may affect the thousands of
students she speaks for at the board table.
Sammott also serves as Prime Minister of the student council at St.
Edmund Campion and helps organize both school and community events. Her
community volunteerism has included the school's alternative Halloween
Trick or Treat event, which provides neighbourhood children a safe
indoor environment to enjoy games, activities and trick or treating.
The teenager also helps organize the Campion Christmas event that turns
the school into an indoor winter wonderland for children in the
community to enjoy.
"Stacie is an outstanding leader and a great role model for the
students," said Sanjeev Malholtra, a physical education teacher at
Campion.
Her teachers and other school staff consider Sammott an excellent role
model, athlete and disciplined scholar. Throughout her years at
Campion, she has been a member of student council while managing to
compete on soccer, flag football, cross-country and swimming teams.
Still she continues to achieve distinction on the school's Honour Roll.
Sammott has also volunteered at the YMCA, helping teach children to play soccer.
"Stacie is a phenomenal academic athlete," said Charlene Mikulic, physical education department head at Campion.
The teenager holds an invaluable place in the community inside and outside her school, according to Teacher Courtney Lasch.
"Stacie is by far one of the most involved, enthusiastic and
hardworking students I have ever had the pleasure of knowing," added
Science Teacher Andrew Selvam.
